Guoan Zheng
Associate Professor
Biomedical Engineering
The research of the Smart Imaging Laboratory focuses on developing advanced imaging and sensing tools to address challenging measurement problems in biology, medicine, and metrology. The lab is led by Dr. Zheng, an expert in microscopy, ptychography, optical engineering, and computational imaging. The Fourier ptychography technology developed by Dr. Zheng and his colleagues is now a chapter in Goodman’s classic textbook, “Introduction to Fourier Optics (4th edition)”.
The lab’s current research areas include high-throughput imaging and screening, optical physiology, super-resolution imaging, lensless ptychographic sensors, coherent diffraction imaging, and chip-scale imaging solutions. Since 2015, the lab’s research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Connecticut Innovations, the UConn Research Excellence Award, and multiple industry partners.
